Yoga Centric - Harford's Home Studio
Help us achieve our team yoga challenge to practice 8 straight hours of yoga!
Through this unique team challenge, we are using our breath and our bodies to experience yoga in a whole new way in honor of those who have been affected by lung cancer. Will you help us earn our spot today by making a donation?
Your donation helps fund lifesaving lung cancer research and education programs through Free to Breathe, all focused on making surviving lung cancer the expectation, not the exception. You have the power to give families hope.
LUNG CANCER & YOGA
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women. It is estimated that there are about 220,000 or more lung cancer diagnoses each year in the United States alone. Each year that number grows.
Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women; about 1 out of 4 cancer deaths are from lung cancer. Each year, more people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.
That being said, for those who have been diagnosed or survived, yoga has been credited by many to giving back breath to their life. Surgeries and chemotherapy is known for making patients weak, barely being able to breathe, something I often take for granted. However, emerging evidence suggests that yoga can help patients with lung cancer manage their symptoms.
Studies have shown that yoga can:
• Improve sleep, appetite, and habits
• Increase sense of peace and tranquility
• Change immune and cardiopulmonary function
• Decrease anxiety, fatigue, and pain.
