5K & 1 Mile Run/Walk and Rally A group of dedicated survivors, advocates and healthcare profesionals formed the first National Lung Cancer Partnership Chapter. They organized the first Free to Breathe® event in Raleigh in 2007 to raise awareness and research funding for lung cancer. In 2008, the Triad inaugural event was added to the Free to Breathe® lineup.
Please join us for the 4th Annual Free to Breathe® Lung Cancer 5K Run/Walk in Raleigh. Similar events will be held in Greensboro and in Boone this year. Help raise awareness and research funding for lung cancer by joining or donating to one or all of these events!
When: November 6, 2010 7:30-9:00 a.m. - Event day registration 7:45-8:15 a.m. - Survivors' Breakfast 8:00-9:00 a.m. - Rally with speakers, music, food and family entertainment 9:00 a.m. - 1 Mile Run/Walk Begins - Survivors are invited to lead the way! 9:30 a.m. - 5K Run/Walk Begins 10:30 a.m. - Kids' Dash for Children 6 and Under (Free) Following the 5K, there will be speakers, awards, food and music. Throughout the event there will be family entertainment and activities featuring Games2U Triangle.

Survivor Registration: FREE registration and shirt for lung cancer survivors when pre-registered online by November 3 or by mail by November 1. Registration form and signed waiver form are required. Your shirt can be picked up when checking-in at the North Carolina Lung Cancer Partnership Survivors' Tent. There is no need to visit the registration tent! All survivors and their families are also welcome to participate in the complimentary Survivors' Breakfast at the Survivors' Tent.
Long Sleeved Shirts: Long sleeved t-shirts are FREE with registration. Shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registered participants. A limited number of shirts and will be available on event day while quantities last.
Souvenirs will also be available for purchase on event day.

Run/Walk Course Descriptions & Routes: Both races start and finish on Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University. The 5K course is certified by USAT&F, and all performances will count towards state records and national rankings.
Fundraising Information: Each individual who raises $1,500 or more for the National Lung Cancer Partnership will receive a fundraising incentive. Set up an online fundraising page and download pledge and donation forms here.
Awards: In the competitive (timed) 5K, awards will be presented to the first three males overall, the first three females overall, and to the first three finishers in each of the following age groups (both sexes): 12 & under; 13-19; 20-24; 25-59; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; and 70+. Recreational (untimed) 5K runners and walkers will see their finishing times at the finish line but will not be eligible for awards.

Second Empire Grand Prix Race Series: This Free to Breathe® event is part of the Annual Grand Prix Race Series. This Free to Breathe® 5K is the 6th race in the 8th annual Second Empire Grand Prix, a series of nine races in which runners earn points towards awards given at the end of the Grand Prix at the end of 2010.
